New in the last 5 days Manitoba Provincial Team Coach Applications Being Accepted

Basketball Manitoba has announced that it is now accepting applications for the 2010 and 2011 Manitoba Provincial Team Program coaching positions.  In 2010, there will be 6 Provincial Teams offered (male and female 14U, 15U, 17U teams) with the 15U and 17U attending a national championship in August.  The 14U team is being created to springboard the program to the 2011 Western Canada Summer Games in British Columbia and will travel and train as the other 2 teams, but will not attend a National.  Interested candidates are to apply in writing before the deadline of Friday November 27, 2009 in order to be considered. Special Notice on Impending Office Relocation

Basketball Manitoba would like to share with its members a special notice on its upcoming office relocation occurring in the coming months.  The last day that the current office will be located at 200 Main Street is Friday December 18, 2009.  The new office location for the organization and all other sports currently housed in the Sport Manitoba building will be at 145 Pacific Ave in Winnipeg's Exchange District.  Unfortunately, the new building may not be ready for use until as late as March 1, 2010.  Over this transition period, the current office staff will be working from their respective residences and will maintain regular phone and email contact during normal office hours (M-F, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm).  Items can still be dropped off during business hours or mailed to the organization in the main floor mail room at 200 Main Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 4M2 over this period as the staff will be making regular visits to the old building.  Basketball Manitoba will also be suspending its Book & Video Resource Library services and Basketball Store until the relocation is complete.  The last day available to access either service will be Friday December 4, 2009.  All efforts will be made to ensure there is little to no interruption in the services the office currently provides!  For more information...

Canada Basketball Releases Updated Long-Term Athlete Development Model

The Canada Basketball Long-Term Athlete Development Model (LTAD) provides a consistent framework from which coaches can work. This document has been designed with the input of sport scientists and coaches from across the country. It is a long-term player/athlete development model that illustrates to coaches, parents, volunteers and administrators at the local, provincial and national levels, the importance of a systematic and consistent approach to the development of athletes. NCCP Intro to Competition Clinic and Community Coach Clinics Offered in Brandon

Basketball Manitoba is pleased to announce two upcoming NCCP coaching clinics held in Brandon, Manitoba on Dec. 6, 2010 and Jan. 9-10, 2010. These courses serve as a way to bring a fresh look at how we want to teach and play basketball in our province to be able to compete across the country and to encourage athletes to stay involved long past their competitive years. The goals of the ‘Community Basketball Coach’ program are to help kids get involved in basketball and acquire basic skills while emphasizing FUN, FITNESS and FUNDAMENTALS!

International Classic Set for Dec 4-6

The Manitoba Magic and Junior Wesmen Basketball Clubs are pleased to announce the details on the 2009 International Classic which is set for December 4-6 at the University of Winnipeg Duckworth Centre. The tournament is open to club basketball teams ages 8-17 and deadline to register is November 24. A tournament entry fee of $275 has been set which will guarantee 3 games. Women to Watch Scholarship Application Deadline Extended to Nov 30

A major Sport Manitoba initiative is the Women to Watch Grant Program. Working in partnership with Basketball Manitoba and Coaching Manitoba, Sport Manitoba provides a monthly grant of $500 to a female athlete, team, official or volunteer to Assist them in enhancing their women in sport career. A $500 monthly grant is also awarded to a female coach to assist them in further developing the skills necessary to attain a higher level of coaching or increased level of coaching experience. Recent basketball recipients of this grant include Danielle Degagne and Tia Coulter of Brandon and Morgan Cross and Tia Ruddock of Winnipeg.
